Ironvale is hiring two welders and a fitter

Day shift, real overtime, and testing we pay for.

What the work is actually like

Twenty-four people, one building, and a yard. You will fit and weld structural steel, stairs and rail, and some weeks you will be on a site instead of at a bench. Nobody here does the same thing every day for a year.

Carla runs the floor and decides when an apprentice is ready to test. Ray writes the quotes and still walks the shop twice a day, which means when something goes wrong you tell a person, not a portal. We would rather hear about a bad weld from you on Tuesday than from an inspector on Friday.

Open roles

Structural welder (two)

AWS D1.1 qualified, or willing to test. Floor shift 6:30 to 3:00, counter open until 4:30. Twenty-nine to thirty-eight dollars an hour depending on what you can prove on a plate test.

Fitter

Layout from drawings, tack and fit for the welders. Two years in a structural shop, or a trade program and an attitude Carla can work with. Twenty-four to thirty-two an hour.

Apprentice

No experience needed. You will sweep, grind and learn, in that order. We pay for your AWS test when Carla says you are ready. Twenty dollars an hour to start.

What you get here

  1. A schedule you can plan around

    The floor runs 6:30 to 3:00 and the counter stays open to 4:30. Saturday mornings, 7:00 to noon, are voluntary. Overtime is paid and never dropped on you at four o'clock on a Friday.

  2. Testing on us

    We pay for AWS plate tests and the renewals. Want D1.6 as well? You get shop time and real coupons to practice on.

  3. Gear that works

    New hoods, gloves and leathers when they wear out, not when the budget year turns over. Rigs and machines are serviced on a schedule.

  4. Twenty-four people

    Small enough that Ray knows what you are working on. Big enough that you are not the only fitter on a bad week.
